107. The estimated cost of the building work is approxi-

mately $ 920,000, and the pumping machinery $ 150,000 including

the necessary valves, pipework, ete.

42-inch Pumping Main to Service Reservoir.

108. The estimated cost of this work amounts to $920,000,

the distance being about 2/3 miles.

Service Reservoir and Pumping Station No. 2.

109. The estimated cost of the building work is S 830,000,

and the pumping machinery amounts to 3 40,000.

Miscellaneous Mains.

110. The estimated cost of the 24-inch main from Pumping

Station No. 2 to Shek-lai-pui Service Reservoir, the 24-inch

main from that reservoir to Kowloon-tong Service Reservoir, and

the 18-inch main from that service reservoir to Yau-ma-ti Service

Reservoir, amounts to S 480,000.

Total estimated Capital Cost of First Instalment.

111.

The total estimated capital cost amounts to $ 20,850,000.

Working Expenses.

Pumping Station No. 1.

112. It has been assumed for the purpose of estimating that

electricity is purchased from the China Light & Power Company as

the motive power for the pumps.

113.

Electrical power offers the following advantages:-

(1) Cheapness in cest of the machinery.

(2) Lower wages and maintenance costs.

(3) Smaller buildings required to house the plant.

(4) Convenience in operation.

114. If, however, current cannot be purchased at a low

rate, it is more economical to instal say Diesel Oil Engines

as the motive power for the pumps.
